Wing Stop - Santa Maria

$1.oo Blue Moon drafts and a Wing eating contest. Let's stop! Radio station was onsite and they were recruiting wing eaters to eat the atomic wings. Most wings in 3 minutes won the contest. I was with my son and settled on the 6 piece honey wing and settled in as a spectator. Let me tell you, the atomic wings are hot, but tasty. I sampled on after and it was damn good. Hot and good. I would go there and order a 6 piece atomic just to get the spice kick it gave me.

Please check this place out. It rocks.

Papa Napoli's Deli

The menu is here...

http://www.papanapoli.com/menu.html

Stopped for lunch today and was hungry! I would normally eat a half sandwich, and from what I have been told about Papa Napolini sandwiches, that is enough. Decided on the whole Pastrami with all the extras. This was a great sandwich. Not only was the food good, the service was equally matched. I remember going here as a kid. The sandwiches haven't changed since. Same great service and food. Thanks Papa Napoli for another great sandwich. It has been 15 years since I was there last, it won't be another 15 before I return.

Natural Cafe - Santa Maria

I stopped into Natural Cafe for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Menu is here... http://www.thenaturalcafe.com/menu.php

I decided on "The Local Favorite" which was avacado with lettuce, sprouts, tomato, red onion on 9 grain bread with garlic mayo. Served on the side where fresh chips and homemade salsa. This is a constant staple at the Natural Cafe. I make these sandwiches at home for my kids and they love them. For the mayo, just roast a clove of garlic with olive oil and mix with mayo.

Great sandwich, I will try more menu items in the future.

La Unica - 2350 South Broadway, Santa Maria CA

Stopped in for a quick bite to eat this last weekend. It has been some time since I have been to La Unica. They used to be one of the best places in town so I decided relive old memories. The management has changed, I'm told the owners have since moved on to open other restaurants in Santa Maria (Senor Salsa, Taco Loco).

Tacos are $1.99 and a burrito will set you back about $6.00. They have a wide selection of items which is impressive for a quick lunch/dinner. Domestic/Mexican beer is also ready in the cooler if you need something to wash down their very tasty hot sauce.

I settled on the carnitas burrito as did the guy in back of me in line. Must be good? As I waited I watched the kitchen prepare the burritos. The cashier doubled as the cook and spread the carnitas across the grill. There was a lot of chaos coming from the back of the kitchen and the cook seemed distracted. My burrito was prepared in less than 5 min. While waiting for the cook to finish another customers order he lost control of the tongs which landed on the floor. Without missing a beat he drove them back into the meat and continued cooking. Cleanliness must not be a high standard.

However, having watched him prepare my burrito, I felt all was safe. The carnitas was tender, although it could have been a bit spicier.

La Unica gets a thumbs up on taste and a thumbs down on cleanliness.
